東洋エンタープライズ社(Toyo Enterprises)のミリタリーレーベル「Buzz Ricksons バズリクソンズ」の無地A-2フライトジャケット(メンズ レザージャケット ミリタリージャケット)です。

A-2は1930年代に米国陸軍航空隊で使用されたミリタリージャケットです。第二次世界大戦時に米陸軍飛行兵に着用されたパイロットジャケットで、フライトジャケットの中でも最高峰に位置づけされているジャケットです。

この製品は、エアロレザー社が1941年に製造した5度目の生産ロットにあたるモデルの復刻品です。赤いリブニットと台襟を持たない仕様が特徴です。

素材は馬革(本革ホースハイド)です。荒々しいシボの表情を持った堅固で引き締まった革質と、しなやかな質感を併せ持ったレザーです。タンニングはベジタブルで、フィニッシュはピグメント仕上げです。本来、馬革は表面の滑らかな部分が少ないため、傷やシワが多々見られます。このジャケットは、馬革独特のシワをそのまま活かし、滑らかな馬革とは違った魅力を持ちます。最近では傷や皺が無く、ムラのないものが高級とされるあまり、傷がついていたり、着込んで傷がつくことに神経質になる傾向がありますが、着続けて出来る傷や皺こそが革の表情に磨きをかけ、着用者の身体に馴染むオリジナリティー溢れる一着となります。

身頃裏地と袖裏地は、コットン100%のライトウェイトブロードクロス(ポプリン)です。高密度に織られた薄手綿生地で、インナーウェアとの摩擦を考慮した袖通しの良い生地です。

袖口と裾部分はダブルレイヤー(二重)のレッドカラーリブで切替えられています。袖口のリブは織りの組成をローゲージからハイゲージに変えることで程よいフィット感を生み出します。

フロントはジップアップで、ジッパーにはTALON(タロン)ニッケルフィニッシュファスナーが使用されています。

ジッパーの前には比翼(ウインドフラップ/ストームフラップ)が付き、外気の侵入を防ぐと共にジッパーを保護するつくりになっています。ジップのスライダーにはレザータブが付けられ、バイクのグローブなどをしていても開閉がしやすくなるようにされています。

ウエスト部分には隠しスナップボタン付きのフラップポケットが設けられています。

襟は、台襟が付かない仕様で、襟先には隠しスナップボタンが付き、襟をボタンダウンのように留めることができます。

ネックには風の侵入を防ぐフック(カラークリップ)が付けられていますが、着用時は窮屈なため閉じて着用する者は殆どいなかったとされています。

脇下には湿気逃しのための鳩目穴(アイレット)が付けられています。

両肩には縫い付け式のエポーレット(肩章)が設けられています。

1930年代後半からA-2の生産を開始したエアロレザー社は、A-2を製造したコントラクターの中で最多の7度もの納入を誇っています。これは古くから確かな技術と生産キャパシティーを併せ持ち、安定供給が可能であった優良メーカーであることを裏付けています。この製品はエアロレザー社が1941年に製造した5度目の生産ロットにあたるモデルの復刻品です。それまで納入された4モデルは台襟の付いた仕様であったが、このモデル以降から台襟を持たない仕様となりました。このモデルは、前立ての分を無視して、左右の前身頃が同じ型紙を使用しているため、ポケット位置を水平に移動して正面から見た時のバランスを保っています。そのため、左右の脇線からのポケット位置の間隔を見ると、ポケットが左右違う位置に付けられていることを見て取れます。また、ポケット下部のラウンドが狭いためポケットの形状は四角形に近しく、前立てのステッチ幅も狭いため精悍な印象を持っています。使用しているスナップボタンはリングスタッド型で、トップパーツには丸いキャップを使用していないため、着込んだ時にドーナツ状に擦れやアタリが浮き出できます。赤いリブニットを装着したA-2は全コントラクターの18社、計39ロット生産分の中でエアロレザー社だけであり、身頃の濃いシールブラウンと赤いリブニットのコントラストが美しいA-2はエアロレザー社を象徴するものです。
